Happy Independence Day, my friends!

Living in divisive times makes it's easy to forget the huge privilege it is to live in our great country –– an experiment in democracy that changed the world, and an experiment that is still being worked on to this day. It's not perfect, but I am nonetheless proud to be an American and believe we will rise to the challenges before us from global issues to the local budget.

As you celebrate today, give a thought to the many before us that fought (and died) for the freedoms we enjoy today. The soldiers protecting us from threats here and beyond, and also generations of protestors, activists, rabble-rousers, and visionaries that believed a more equitable nation was possible, including those who kicked this whole shebang off 247 some years ago.

I know many of you are concerned about the health of our community through the holiday weekend. It's been a tough week, I won't lie, and an influx of tourists is one of the challenges we face for living in such a beautiful, pristine area. We can always breakdown what brought us here, but today, I encourage all of you to celebrate, practice safe hygiene, do your best, be your best, order some takeout, watch some fireworks, look at the moon, and remember that far more unites us than divides us.

In line with that, here are some firework streams you can watch tonight starting at 9pm (most at 11pm), recipes to try from local grocers, turkey, and Rawhide Meat Processing, how to hold a safe BBQ event from the CDC, fun activities and crafts for an indoor family Fourth, and an explainer on the partial eclipse "Buck Moon" we'll see tonight!
